Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and Caio Ricciuti, an individual sole operator established in Spain, trading as screenshot-api.net (“we”, “us”). They cover the website, the dashboard and the rendering API. By creating an account or sending a request to the API, you accept them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you may bind it.
1. What the service is
screenshot-api.net renders a web page you name and returns it as a PNG, JPEG or WebP image over a single HTTPS request. You supply a URL and options; we run a headless browser against that URL and stream the image back. We do not keep the image, and we do not keep the URL — only its hostname, for 90 days, so your dashboard can show you what you have been rendering. The Privacy Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy form part of these terms.
2. Your account
- You need a working email address. There is no password: we email you a single-use sign-in link that expires in 20 minutes.
- You are responsible for everything done through your account and for keeping access to your email secure. Anyone who can read your inbox can sign in as you.
- One account per person or organisation. Creating extra accounts to get around the free-tier quota is a breach of these terms.
- You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live if that is higher.
3. API keys
- A key is shown to you once, when you create it. We store only its SHA-256 digest, so we cannot recover it for you — if you lose it, revoke it and make another.
- Keep keys server-side. A key in client-side JavaScript, a mobile binary or a public repository is a key anyone can spend your quota with, and that usage is still billed to you.
- You may revoke a key at any time from the dashboard; revocation takes effect immediately.
- If we have good reason to believe a key is compromised or being used abusively, we may revoke it and tell you why.
4. Plans, quotas and rate limits
| Plan | Price | Renders per month | Snapshot sets | Rate limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 | 1 | 1 request/second |
| Starter | $9/month | 2,000 | 5 | 5 requests/second |
| Pro | $29/month | 10,000 | 20 | 10 requests/second |
| Team | $49/month | 25,000 | 50 | 25 requests/second |
| Business | $149/month | 100,000 | 200 | 50 requests/second |
- Quota is counted per calendar month in UTC and resets at the start of each month. Unused renders do not roll over.
- A render that fails because of us does not cost you a unit. If the renderer errors or times out, the unit is returned to your quota automatically. A render that fails because the target page is broken, blocks us, or is unreachable also returns the unit — we do not bill for images we could not produce.
- Once the quota is spent, the API answers
402until you upgrade or the month rolls over. We do not silently overcharge you for overage, because there is no overage. - Rate limits are per account. Exceeding them gets you a
429, not a bill. - Quotas and limits are a fair-use ceiling, not a reservation of capacity. Sustained traffic that destabilises the service for other customers may be throttled even if you are inside your plan — we will contact you before doing that unless the damage is immediate.
5. Billing
- Paid plans are billed monthly in advance through Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never touch our servers.
- Prices are in US dollars and exclude any VAT or sales tax we are required to collect. Any such tax is calculated and shown at checkout before you pay.
- A subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel it.
- If a payment fails, Stripe retries it. If it keeps failing, we may downgrade the account to Free, which means the Free quota and rate limit apply until payment succeeds. We will email you before that happens.
- Invoices and receipts are available in the Stripe billing portal, reachable from your dashboard.
6. Cancellation and refunds
- You can cancel at any time, from the billing portal, without contacting us and without giving a reason.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then the account drops to Free. Your account, keys and history are not deleted by cancelling.
- Fees already paid are not refunded, including for a partly used month, except where the law requires otherwise or where we have clearly failed to deliver the service.
- If you want the account itself deleted rather than downgraded, ask us and we will do it — see the Privacy Policy for what survives deletion and why.
Consumers in the EU and UK. You normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. Because a subscription gives you working API access immediately, by subscribing you ask us to begin supplying the service at once and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once it is fully performed. If you withdraw within 14 days before that, we will refund you in proportion to what you have not used. This paragraph does not apply to business customers.
7. Price changes
We may change prices or the contents of a plan. Changes take effect on your next renewal and we will email you at least 30 days beforehand. If you do not want the new price, cancel before it applies; that is the whole remedy.
8. Acceptable use
The Acceptable Use Policy is part of this agreement and is the document that actually matters for a service that fetches arbitrary URLs. In short: point the renderer only at pages you are entitled to capture, do not use it to get around anyone’s authentication or bot protection, do not use it to probe networks, and do not resell raw rendering capacity as a competing screenshot API.
9. The pages you capture
- You choose the URLs. You are responsible for them, and you confirm you have the right to capture and to use whatever comes back.
- If a captured page contains personal data, you are the controller and we are your processor for that data. The Data Processing Addendum sets out those terms and is available without negotiation.
- We do not review, moderate or index the pages you point at, and we have no way to know what is on them. That is deliberate, and it is why the responsibility sits with you.
10. Ownership
- The images we return are yours. We claim no ownership of them and no licence to use them. We do not keep a copy.
- Any rights in the underlying pages belong to whoever owns those pages, and rendering one does not transfer them to you. Copyright is your problem to get right.
- The website, the API and the software behind them remain ours. These terms grant you the right to use the service, not to copy it.
- You may say publicly that you use screenshot-api.net. We will not use your name or logo as a reference without asking you first.
11. Availability
We aim to keep the service up and we watch it daily, but it is provided without a formal uptime SLA. It runs on a single server, and we would rather say so than imply a redundancy we do not have. We may take it down for maintenance, and will keep that short and, where planned, announced. If you need a contractual availability commitment, write to us before you build on it.
12. Suspension and termination
- You may stop using the service at any time, and delete your account whenever you like.
- We may suspend or terminate an account that materially breaches these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, that has not paid, or that is causing harm to the service or to third parties.
- Where the problem is fixable we will warn you first and give you a reasonable chance to fix it. Where it is serious — illegal content, an attack, an attempt to reach internal networks — we may act immediately.
- Termination for cause does not entitle you to a refund of fees already paid.
- If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give at least 60 days’ notice and refund the unused part of any prepaid period.
13. Disclaimer of warranty
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that a render will be pixel-accurate, that a given page will render at all, that the service will be uninterrupted, or that it will be error-free. Web pages change, block bots, and break; a screenshot service inherits all of that. Statutory rights that consumers have and that cannot be excluded are not affected.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, nor for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data or business interruption, even if we were told such damage was possible. Our total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
15. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of the URLs you told us to render, the use you made of the images, or your breach of these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, you will cover the resulting claims, damages and reasonable legal costs. We will tell you promptly about any such claim and will not settle it without your agreement. This does not apply to consumers acting outside a trade or profession.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Spain, where we are established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Spain have jurisdiction. The service runs on infrastructure in Finland, which does not change that. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top always shows the current version. For material changes we will email account holders at least 30 days before they take effect; continuing to use the service after that means you accept them. If you do not, cancel.
If any provision here turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing something once does not waive it. This document, together with the Privacy Policy, the Acceptable Use Policy and, where it applies, the Data Processing Addendum, is the entire agreement between us.
